Board of Directors

About the Deschutes Land Trust Board of Directors.

The Land Trust's Board of Directors oversees the strategic direction of the organization. Through monthly meetings they assure that the Land Trust is able to conserve land in Central Oregon for today and tomorrow.

Tom AtkinsTom Atkins is President and Founder of J.T. Atkins & Company P.C., based in Bend, Oregon.  Tom is an award-winning landscape architect and planner whose work focuses on applying his understanding of how natural and cultural features shape the site and region in creating sustainable plans and designs. His firm’s projects include greenway and trail system plans, park designs, urban spaces, and conservation developments. Prior to moving to Bend from Seattle, Tom was on the Board of the Cascade Land Conservancy.  He enjoys the special environments in and around Bend while skiing, biking, canoeing and birding. 

  

Cal AllenCal Allen is a retired Division Manager of Chevron Chemical Company.  He has spent the last 13 years working with volunteers and non-profit organizations in the Sisters area.  Cal has served as a board member of the Kiwanis Club of Sisters, the Indian Meadow Water Company, the Deschutes County Library Foundation and the Friends of the Library in Sisters. Cal and his wife Marsha are avid hikers in Central Oregon and foreign countries when the opportunity arises. They trade their boots for snowshoes in the winter and Cal plays golf and occasionally fishes with about equal success.

  

Don BauhoferDon Bauhofer is active in real-estate development as the founder and president of The Pennbrook Company, founder and CEO of Pennbrook Homes, Inc. and co-owner of Arrowood Development LLC.  Don is also the director and co-owner of the Pacific Education Corporation, which owns and operates Pioneer Pacific College; as well as a founder and former owner of Praxis Medical Group.  Don has served on the Board of Trustees for The Nature Conservancy of Oregon and currently serves on the Board of Directors for Crabtree & Rahmsdorf Defense Services and Klamath First Bank. In his spare time he enjoys fishing, duck hunting and spending time with his family.

 

Rod BonackerRod Bonacker is the special projects coordinator for Deschutes and Ochoco National Forest. He began his Forest Service career in 1974 as a firefighter, and continues to work in fire suppression as Operations Section Chief for the Central Oregon Incident Management Team. When he is not working on Land trust business or fighting fire, Rod fishes, skis, rides his bike, and manages his rare book business, Black Butte Books.

 

Mollie ChaudetMollie Chaudet is a public land manager who specializes in community-based, landscape-level land management. She has over 20 years experience with the U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management developing collaborative solutions to complex local and national public and private land use issues. Mollie has led planning efforts on national wild and scenic rivers that produced a single integrated management plan between multiple agency jurisdictions. She loves to sail, hike, fish, and spend as much time in the outdoors as possible. 

 

Mary CampbellMary Campbell has been active in commercial real estate development and commercial property management for over 25 years in Oregon.  She works for River Bend Limited Partnership and General Partner, Bill Smith, on the planning and design of the Old Mill District. Mary is also the Property Manager for Mill District Managers, managing and overseeing commercial and retail properties in and around the Old Mill District. Previous board expereince includes Arts Central and Central Oregon Symphony Association. In her spare time, Mary enjoys gardening, hiking and reading.

 

Judy ClintonJudy Clinton is an artist and architectural designer.  She worked on numerous mixed-use architectural projects in San Diego.  Prior to that she was a scientific illustrator at Scripps Institution of Oceanography and University of Wisconsin Geology and Geophysics Department.  Judy has illustrated many scientific books, most notably The National Audubon Society Field Guide to Rocks and Minerals.  Judy has served on the University of Oregon School of Music and Dance Advisory board, the Osher Lifelong Learning board, and the Building a Better Bend board. Her hobbies include cross country skiing, motorcycling and gardening and she enjoys classical music, ballet, opera and art.

 

Mike EmmonsMichael Emmons holds a LLM in Taxation from NYU Law School. Since both Mike and his wife, Gail, grew up in Oregon Mike started his career in Oregon by joining the Tax Division of Arthur Andersen & Co in their Portland office.  Later, wanting to live overseas, Mike worked for Arthur Anderson in Hong Kong and Tokyo. In 1995 Mike joined Andersen Consulting (Accenture today) as head of its world wide tax group and retired from Accenture in 2001. Mike is currently on the board of Mentor Corporation, listed on NYSE, and recently retired (term limits) from the board of Black Butte Ranch.  He started flying after retiring and has a plane hangared at Redmond Airport.  Gail and he also enjoy traveling, golfing, fly fishing and grandchildren, not necessarily in that order.

 

Bob EvansBob Evans is owner of Robert Evans Company based in Hillsboro, Oregon, specializing in the construction of commercial and industrial buildings.  He is also a Board Member of the Deschutes Chapter of Trout Unlimited.  Prior to his move to Redmond, Robert held Board positions with the Jackson Bottom Wetlands Preserve, Portland Rose Festival Association, Hillsboro Community Foundation, and Hillsboro Sunrise Rotary. Prior to moving to Central Oregon, Bob and his wife Sharon commercially raised wine grapes on their farm in Washington County, Oregon. His hobbies include fly fishing, backcounty exploration, birding, travel, farming, cooking, wine and photography.

 

Collins HemingwayCollins Hemingway is a former senior executive at the Microsoft Corporation. Collins writes and lectures about business and technology, has a consultancy on business and marketing, serves as an executive coach, and enjoys the quality of life afforded by Central Oregon.

 

Kit KorishKit Korish is a Central Oregon native, born and raised on the Metolius River.  He has been in the real estate business since 1971 and currently is a Real Estate Broker and President of Duke Warner Realty.  Kit does volunteer work with Global Volunteers and has served on numerous committees including Deschutes County Advisory Committee regarding Industrial Land, City of Bend Budget Committee, Central Oregon Board of Realtors and others.  

 

Jerry NorquistJerry Norquist is the Executive Director of Cycle Oregon.  Prior to moving to Central Oregon in 1998, he was vice-president and general manager of Specialized Bicycle Components in Morgan Hill, California and director of products and brand manager at Trek Bicycles in Waterloo, Wisconsin.  Jerry is actively involved in the Sisters community and volunteers his time for the Community Action Team of Sisters and the Economic Development Team for Sisters.

 

Lauri PowersLauri Powers is a regional autism consultant with the High Desert Education Service District. A former educator for 18 years with the Bend-La Pine School District, Lauri help start the Westside Village Magnet School where she taught K-8 mixed-age students. Lauri volunteers with Central Oregon Trail Alliance and the Tumalo Langlauff Club and serves on the board of the Shelvin Commons Association. In her spare time Lauri enjoys be out with her dog Taj skiing, biking, and playing tennis.

 

Larry WeinbergLaurence (Larry) Weinberg retired as an Associate Technical Fellow from the Boeing Company in 2005 and moved to Bend in September of that year. Prior to his almost 18 years with Boeing, Larry was an attorney with state government in Montana; and before that he taught mathematics at the University of Wyoming.  In Bend he volunteers with the Deschutes Land Trust, Central Oregon Humane Society, Tower Theatre, and Osher Lifelong Leaning Institute (OLLI, formerly the Silver Sage Society). Larry has eliminated a great many invasive plants from the Land Trust Indian Ford Meadow and Camp Polk Meadow Preserves, and helps to lead the Land Trust’s Weed Warrior team in its seemingly never-ending battle with invasive species.

  

Bob WoodwardBob Woodward is an outdoor writer, photographer, and publisher who has served in numerous magazine editorial positions over the past thirty years. He was a Bend City Councilor from 1983-1999 and served as the town's Mayor from 1997 to 1999. A founding member of the Central Oregon Trail Alliance (COTA), Bob is a member of the Bend Metro Parks and Recreation District's board of directors and is a member of the American Society of Media Photographers. He is an active cross-country skier, backcountry skier, whitewater kayaker, canoeist, road and mountain cyclists who has been nominated to the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame.
