Pine Tree Mill Hike, Skyline Forest
Join the Deschutes Land Trust and Leslie Olson to explore the history of Central Oregon in Skyline Forest. Visit the remnants of a 1916 lumber mill and explore Bend's early logging history. Then, explore how water and irrigation impacted early settlement. Finally, learn about the Land Trust's efforts to conserve the forest. Registration is required and opens 1 month prior to the event.

Outing Details + Route
Hike Rating: This is a moderate, ~2 mile hike on dirt roads and trails.
Route: This hike will start at the site of a historic lumber mill and then hike through the forest. Terrain will be uneven at times.
Elevation gain/loss: There is very little elevation gain/loss on this hike.
What to Bring
Snacks, water, sturdy hiking shoes. Dress for the weather.
About the Property
Skyline Forest is a privately-owned forest between Bend and Sisters, Oregon. This 33,000 acre tree farm was historically known as the Bull Springs Tree Farm, and the Deschutes Land Trust has been working for a decade to conserve the forest for the local community. Surrounded by state and federal lands, Skyline Forest contains important wildlife habitat, tremendous recreation opportunities and protects the scenic green foothills that set off the Central Oregon Cascades.
