First Steelhead Smolt Captured at Camp Polk Meadow
The first ocean bound steelhead smolt was caught and tagged at the Camp Polk Meadow screwtrap during the first week of April . After being caught, the fish was surgically fitted with a Pit Tag, so that biologists will know if and when he makes it to Round Butte Dam and the Selective Water Withdrawal Tower to continue his journey to the lower river and the great blue sea.
Land Trust Staff Tours Selective Water Withdrawal Station
On April 6th Land Trust staff had the opportunity to tour the Selective Water Withdrawal Tower and Fish Collection Facility at Round Butte Dam to learn how local fish releases are just the beginning of the effort to bring anadromous fish back to their home waters.
Deschutes Land Trust Awarded Forest Legacy Grant for Skyline Forest Acquisition
The Deschutes Land Trust has been awarded a $2.5 million grant from the USDA’s Forest Legacy Program to support the acquisition and protection of Skyline Forest as a working community forest.

Volunteers will install new signage along the Suttle Lake trails north of Sisters in Central Oregon. The new signs will help guide visitors as they connect to the new Lake Creek Trail which runs through the Land Trust's Metolius Preserve.

Land Trust Volunteers Help Complete New Lake Creek Trail
The new Lake Creek Trail that runs from Camp Sherman to Suttle Lake via the Metolius Preserve has been completed. Land Trust volunteers showed up on Earth Day to help Friends of the Metolius, the Forest Service and the National Forest Foundation clear trails and install signage to officially open the Lake Creek Trail.

Land Trust and Conservation Alliance members team up for a “Backyard Collective” work day at Skyline Forest
On Tuesday, the Deschutes Land Trust led 40 volunteers from Conservation Alliance member organizations in a work party at Bull Springs on Skyline Forest. Projects for the day included Aspen release work, trail maintenance and deconstruction, litter removal and stream-side restoration work.
