"The Land Trust has the capacity to effect change on the ground, directly, with a minimum of administrative waste. I know my investment will be used to make a difference in Central Oregon for my children and those beyond."

April 2008 News

April 2008 update from the Deschutes Land Trust.

Metolius Preserve Walk
Spring-time hiking at the Metolius Preserve.

Spring in all its erratic glory is upon us! Land Trust walks officially take off this month and we hope you’ll get outside and enjoy the sun or snow that nature might send your way. April is also the month we celebrate Earth Day. Take the time this month to give something back—join a Land Trust work party or become a Weed Warrior and help combat invasive species in Central Oregon. See the below for more on how you can help.

Stewardship Update:

  • Weed Warriors: Take action against invasive species—become a Weed Warrior! Weed Warriors are folks who dedicate 1 day month or week to weed removal and camaraderie at Land Trust Preserves. This year’s Weed Warrior agenda includes invasive species removal at Camp Polk Meadow in preparation for the restoration of Whychus Creek through the meadow. See our event calendar for upcoming Weed Warrior.
  • New Stewardship tools: When you join our work parties this year, you’ll be treated to brand new gloves, weeding tools, rakes, wheelbarrows, pulaskis, and much more!  The Land Trust was able to purchase $1500 worth of new stewardship supplies due to a generous grant from REI. All these new tools should make pulling weeds, clearing trails, and all our other restoration projects that much easier.
  • Bird opportunities: Early May will bring the North American Migrant Count. Join fellow birders on May 10th to count birds at Land Trust Preserves. Contact Amanda Egertson for more information. Or if you’re not available on the 10th, consider helping with bird surveys at Land Trust Preserves. Volunteers head out to Land Trust Preserve year-round to collect data on birds and their use of our Preserves.
