May is National Historic Preservation Month

May 01, 2013
Celebrate with historic tours at Land Trust Preserves. Visit wagon roads, the oldest structure in the county, and old lumber mills.

Did you know your Land Trust Preserves also protect historical sites? Camp Polk Meadow is home to the oldest structure in Deschutes County and Whychus Canyon Preserve is home to the historic Santiam Wagon Road. Celebrate National Historic Preservation Month this May by joining us for one or more of our historic tours:

  • *NEW* May 14: Camp Polk Meadow History Walk. Explore one of Central Oregon's oldest places including the pioneer cemetery. This hike is a partnership with the Deschutes County Historic Landmarks Commission and others!
  • May 18: Mill to Springs Hike. Explore Bend's early logging history with a hike from a 1916 lumber mill over to Bull and Snag Springs.
  • May 28: Santiam Wagon Road History. Walk back in time to explore the Santiam Wagon Road and its pioneer history.
