Charitable IRA rollover extended

Dec 19, 2014
Congress has extended the charitable IRA rollover, allowing Americans age 70 ½ and older to make contributions from their Individual Retirement Accounts to qualified nonprofits.

Congress has voted to extend the charitable IRA rollover, allowing Americans age 70 ½ and older to make contributions from their Individual Retirement Accounts to qualified nonprofits. The new law applies retroactively to charitable IRA distributions made earlier in 2014 and to those made through December 31 of this year. That means there’s still time to make an IRA charitable rollover contribution for the 2014 tax year, before the provision expires again on January 1, 2015.

The bill allows exclusions of up to $100,000 a year from income if IRA funds are contributed directly to a nonprofit. For information on whether making a contribution from your IRA is right for you, please consult your financial advisor.
