As of December 1st, Skyline Forest is under a Deer Winter Range Closure. The Tumalo Winter Range Cooperative Closure closes the winter range to motorized vehicles from December 1st through March 31st. The closure area is jointly monitored and enforced by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Oregon State Police. The unauthorized use of the area by motor vehicles is prohibited and can result in prosecution and significant fines.
While the Deschutes Land Trust has not yet acquired Skyline Forest, we strongly urge the public to respect all private property in the area and comply with the Winter Range Closure and related regulations. For those who choose to visit Skyline Forest during the closure period by foot, horse or bicycle, we urge caution. Disturbance and or harassment of wintering deer and elk is not limited to motorized vehicles and can severely stress these animals at a time when they can least afford it and in the process threaten their survival. In particular, please consider leaving your dog at home and be sure to give the wildlife plenty of space.
If you see activity that you believe is a violation of the Winter Range Closure, constitutes harassment of wildlife, vandalism or destruction of private property, please promptly report the violation to the Oregon State Police by calling 541-388-6300 or in the event of an emergency, please call 911. Reports can also be filed by downloading the Winter Range Closure map, filling out the information and sending it to: Game Division/Oregon State Police, 107 Public Service Building, Salem, Oregon 97310.
