“Since the Land Trust conserved some land near our home we've been impressed with how they protect this area. We now spend countless hours volunteering and we are members of the monthly giving club.”

Steelhead releases planned for Land Trust properties

Steelhead will be released this month at the Deschutes Land Trust's Camp Polk Meadow Preserve and at Rimrock Ranch.

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs continue the reintroduction of native salmon and steelhead with fish releases in May in upper Deschutes basin tributaries. The first steelhead were released in May of 2007, Chinook salmon were released in February 2008, and soon another round of steelhead will be released in Whychus Creek at protected Land Trust properties. Both Camp Polk Meadow Preserve and Rimrock Ranch will see reintroduced steelhead by the end of the month. The releases continue to reinforce the importance of protecting land needed for salmon and steelhead to thrive in their home waters.
