Deschutes Land Trust joins bike tour to raise awareness about Skyline Forest.
Bend, OR Jul 19, 2007As part of a 1,000 mile bicycle tour, Deschutes Basin Land Trust invites local cyclists to ride from Sisters to Prineville on Thursday, July 26, to show support for the Land Trust’s Skyline Forest project. The ride from Sisters to Prineville is part of a two-week bicycle tour called Hybrid.Pedal, which begins in Portland, Ore., on July 25 and ends in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Aug. 7. Hybrid.Pedal is sponsored by KEEN, Inc. to generate awareness for The Conservation Alliance and its grantees.
The local bicycle ride is part of an ongoing campaign to raise awareness for the Land Trust’s Skyline Forest project. The Land Trust is working to acquire Skyline Forest, 33,000 acres of pristine forest west of Bend and Tumalo, for conservation purposes—to make it available for educational and recreational opportunities to the public.
To highlight the need for wilderness conservation, cyclists riding in Hybrid.Pedal will pass through seven conservation projects funded by The Conservation Alliance. The entire bicycle tour will be recorded by Dan Austin, an award-winning documentary filmmaker.
To register for the Sisters-to-Prineville ride, call the Land Trust at (541) 330-0017. Participation cost is $25, which includes insurance, lunch, and shuttle from Prineville to Bend. Cyclists must be 18-years-old and fit to ride the full distance (47 miles). Skyline Forest/Hybrid Pedal cycling jerseys will be available for purchase from the Land Trust.
A press conference will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 26 at Smith Rock. Speakers include Brad Chalfant, Executive Director of Deschutes Basin Land Trust; tentatively John Sterling, Executive Director of The Conservation Alliance; and Chris Enlow, Foundation Manager of Keen Foundation. John Sterling can be reached at (541) 389-2424 or john@conservationalliance.com. Chris Enlow can be reached at (503) 273-2579 or cenlow@keenfootwear.com
