Coffer Ranch is a large ranch in the Mill Creek valley east of Prineville, OR. The Land Trust worked with the owners of Coffer Ranch to permanently protect 492 acres of this ranchland and its important wildlife habitat.
The conserved area includes one mile of Mill Creek, springs and wetlands, and unique rock formations. Coffer Ranch is home to a host of wildlife species including redband trout, rocky mountain elk, Columbia spotted frogs, golden eagles, mountain quail, and numerous songbirds.
Why this property is a conservation priority:
Mill Creek is one of the least developed valleys in the Crooked River system providing outstanding habitat for fish and wildlife and amazing scenic views. By permanently protecting nearly 500 acres in this valley, the Land Trust is able to conserve habitat for native redband trout, calving grounds for Rocky Mountain elk, and creekside habitat for songbirds. Nearby public lands help complete the conservation picture and provide even more protected wildlife habitat.
