Birding at Land Trust Preserves

Bird lists and birding volunteer opportunities at Land Trust Preserves.

Whiteheaded woodpeckerIf you're an avid birder who likes to visit birding hot spots throughout the year, then we'd love to have your help!  Land Trust volunteers are conducting bird surveys at Camp Polk Meadow, Indian Ford Meadow, and the Metolius Preserve year round in order to help us monitor local populations and assess the effects of our stream and forest restoration efforts.

So far we've observed 150 species at Camp Polk Meadow Preserve (145 acres), 90 species at Indian Ford Meadow Preserve (63 acres), and 83 species at the Metolius Preserve (1,240 acres).  Check out the species list for each area:

How to get involved:

If you'd like to conduct volunteer bird surveys at the Preserves, please contact Eva Eagle at (golden_eagle@mac.com) for an orientation tour.  This tour is required for all new surveyors.

Please use the maps below when surveying a Preserve. If you have any questions about the maps or have trouble downloading them, please contact Sherry Berrin.

When visiting the Preserves please be sure to follow the usage rules posted at each site. Wildlife management and habitat restoration are primary goals for these areas and it is vital to keep our monitoring and other activities as low impact and non-invasive as possible. Thank you for your cooperation.

Other Birding Information:
