Bird Surveyor Training

**This work party is currently full. We are, however, taking a waitlist in case a spot opens up. To add your name to the waitlist, please click the yellow 'Register Now' button above.**

Become an official bird surveyor for the Deschutes Land Trust!  Bird surveyors record species and number of birds at our Preserves so that we can monitor populations and see how they are responding to our restoration efforts. You don’t have to be an expert at bird ID to be a surveyor, learning to ID birds as you survey is part of the fun!

Learn more about our volunteer bird survey program.

Bird surveyors volunteer as many days a year as they like. We ask for a commitment of at least one survey a month from May - September to volunteer for this program. To become a bird surveyor, please attend an upcoming training:

What to Bring: Face covering (homemade is fine), hand sanitizer, binoculars and bird ID book (if you have them), sturdy footwear (waterproof boots if possible) clothing for all kinds of inclement spring weather, water, and snacks.

Conditions: This hike will start at a private Whychus Canyon Preserve entrance and follow dirt access roads. We will also venture off-trail into the restoration area. Terrain will be uneven at times.

COVID-19 Guidelines: We take the health and safety of our volunteers and staff seriously. After careful consideration, we have implemented COVID-19 Work Party Guidelines to promote the health and wellbeing of volunteers and staff. Please read and be ready to adhere to these guidelines so everyone can have a safe experience.
