Join the Deschutes Land Trust and Carol Moorehead to explore the Land Trust’s newest Preserve, Willow Springs! Saunter through the grassy meadow to the banks of Whychus Creek while exploring the history of the property and how the Land Trust created the Preserve. Enjoy the display of fall color put on by the aspen groves and cottonwood trees on the property. Learn more about the Land Trust’s vision for the Preserve including how we will work to improve habitat for fish and wildlife. Registration is required and opens 1 month prior to the event.

  • Outing Details + Route

    Hike Rating: This is a moderate, 2-mile hike off-trail and through grassy meadows.

    Route: This hike will start at the Willow Springs Preserve entrance gate and we will venture off-trail into the meadow. Terrain will be uneven.

    Elevation gain/loss: This hike is moderate with little elevation gain/loss.

  • What to Bring

    Snacks, water, sturdy hiking shoes. Dress for the weather.

  • About the Property

    Willow Springs Preserve includes one mile of Whychus Creek, creekside meadows, juniper and pine woodlands, and rimrock cliffs. The Preserve is located outside of Sisters, Oregon and is home to a host of wildlife species including salmon and steelhead, mule deer, rocky mountain elk, raptors, and numerous songbirds.
