Thomas Preserve Paddle, Thomas Preserve
Join the Deschutes Land Trust and Jen Zalewski for a guided paddle to the Thomas Preserve. We'll float a section of the upper Deschutes to visit this unique island Preserve for a picnic lunch. You bring your boat and we'll provide the shuttle. Registration is required and opens 1 month prior to the event.
Outing Details + Route
Rating: Intermediate paddle trip. You should have experience in your boat on stretches of calm, cold river.
Route: We will put-in at La Pine State Park and paddle to the Thomas Preserve. After lunch at the Preserve, we will paddle to our take-out at Big River Campground. Terrain on the island Preserve is uneven.
What to Bring
Bring your boat with its current watercraft permit, your PFD, lunch/snacks, water, water sandals, sunscreen, and bug spray. Dress for the weather.
About the Property
The Thomas Preserve is a 7 acre island on the upper Deschutes River downstream from La Pine State Park. The Preserve was donated to the Deschutes Land Trust by Carla Thomas in 2001 and contains both dry land and wetlands and is within a Federal Wild and Scenic Waterway and State Scenic Waterway.
