IRA Charitable Giving Options

Feb 06, 2019
Consider donating to the Deschutes Land Trust through your retirement account!

At the start of the new year, many retirees begin thinking about their adjusted gross income and how it affects their medicare costs. As you consider your options, be sure to look into charitable giving from your Individual Retirement Account (IRA)!

If you are 70½ or older, you can make a charitable gift from your IRA to the Land Trust without counting those gifts as part of your adjusted gross income. Charitable contributions can be made up to a maximum of $100,000, from eligible retirement accounts including traditional IRAs and Roth IRAs. Gifts must come directly from your IRA administrator.

Obviously, not everyone is in a position to make such a gift, but if you do qualify, it can be an important way to help further the work of the Land Trust! Contact your tax advisor and IRA custodian for more information.
