Fire season reminders

Jul 06, 2018
Fire season is upon us. It's important to remember to take precautions when visiting the Metolius Preserve and other Land Trust protected lands.

This year, we have already begun to see wildfires popping up in Oregon, including at Pilot Butte. It's important to remember there is fire danger, and we can help protect the lands we love from getting scorched.

Please remember to take precautions when visiting Land Trust Preserves, and other public lands in Central Oregon. It only takes a spark!

Please:

  • Do not drive through areas where a hot car can ignite dry grass or weeds.
  • Do not park in areas where a hot car can ignite dry grass or weeds.
  • No campfires or smoking at Land Trust Preserves.
  • Stay informed of fire restrictions in your area (here are details from the Deschutes National Forest, City of Bend, and Oregon Department of Forestry).

For more tips on keeping Oregon green, check out this great post from Deschutes Collaborative Forest Project.

Finally, if you do spot a fire (or an abandoned, smoldering campfire) please report it immediately with a call to 911. Thank you!
