Kids' Fairy Houses, Metolius Preserve

Let your little one's imagination run wild! Join the Deschutes Land Trust and Martha Lussenhop at the Metolius Preserve to build your own fairy house. Use materials found in the forest, create your own small fairy abode, and imagine the fairies that might come visit. Build confidence exploring and enjoying nature. Perfect for kids ages 3-5 with a grown-up in tow.

Registration is required and opens 1 month prior to the event.

Face masks:
Per Oregon Health Authority (OHA) guidelines, all participants (regardless of vaccination status) must bring and wear a face mask during the walk or hike (as soon as you exit your vehicle). Face masks must fit tight to the face, be worn over the nose and mouth, and must be secure enough to stay on during your entire walk or hike. Per OHA guidelines, face shields are not considered a face mask. The Land Trust will have extra face masks for use as needed.

  • Outing Details + Route

    Hike Rating: This is an easy for kids, less than 1 mile walk on established trails.

    Route: This hike will start at the South Trailhead of the Metolius Preserve and follow Preserve trails. Terrain will be uneven at times.

    Elevation gain/loss: There is very little elevation gain/loss on this hike.

  • What to Bring

    Face mask (homemade is fine), snacks, water, closed toe shoes. Dress for the weather.

  • About the Property

    The Metolius Preserve is a 1,240 acre forested Preserve near Camp Sherman, Oregon. The Deschutes Land Trust established the Preserve in 2003. The Preserve contains mature ponderosa pine, Douglas fir, and western larch, as well as a rich diversity of other plant species. Three miles of Lake Creek, an important tributary to the Metolius River, flow through the property, contributing to the rich habitat found on the Preserve.
