Bioblitz
What is a bioblitz?
A bioblitz is a way to take a snapshot of the biodiversity, or variety of life, that exists in a specific location. Community members come together to identify as many plants and animals as they can and help build a connection to the natural world.
Who can join?
All are welcome! Come explore and learn more about the Metolius Preserve during this family-friendly event. Investigation stations for kids will help guide the identification process, while others can explore and record observations on their own.
How does it work?
Each person will have the opportunity to identify and count species either using the iNaturalist app on their personal phone, or using a pen and worksheet that will be provided. You may choose to look for plants and wildlife by venturing out onto the trails, staying close to the North Trailhead entrance, or checking out the investigation stations.
We'll specifically be paying attention to:
- Fantastic Flora: find out what grows from the ground.
- Flying Friends: search for the songbirds that soar above our heads and flit around the trees.
- Wet Wayfinders: take a closer look at the creatures that call Lake Creek home.
Registration is helpful, but not required. Registrants will receive additional event details and directions leading up to the bioblitz.
