While local Earth Day fairs and parades have been cancelled, you can still celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day on April 22, 2020 from home! Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Have your own parade! Go ahead and craft your own animal costume, then have a parade with your family--whether it's a bike ride around the neighborhood, a wander through your backyard, or simply a walk throughout your home. Share your photos with us on FacebookInstagram (and don't forget to tag us!) or via email. We'll post a virtual parade photos throughout the day!
  • Plant something. Now's a great time for planting! Since Central Oregon has chilly nights still, learn how to create a newspaper starter pot that you can plant indoors to get your garden growing. We, of course, recommend starting native milkweed to help the iconic monarch butterfly!
  • Weed your yard or neighborhood weed patch. While the Land Trust's Weed Warriors are practicing social distancing, you can still battle invasive weeds in your own yard or in your neighborhood weed patch. Do your part in creating ideal areas for native plants to thrive! Here are our most common local invasive weeds.
  • Get creative and celebrate nature. This can take many forms--whether it's writing down the things you are grateful for in nature or the outdoors, creating some nature art, or paying attention to the little things in your yard. Get creative with your enjoyment and gratitude for nature.

We hope you will get creative and join us in celebrating Earth Day this year!
