We take our goal of caring for the land seriously and this year was chock full of restoration at Land Trust Preserves! Here's a recap on some of the major restoration projects that were completed this year:
- Paulina Creek Preserve: We started the year with restoration at our newest Preserve by removing unsafe structures and then seeding native grasses in the former footprints of the old home and barn. We also secured funding to create the restoration plan for Paulina Creek and launch our initial forest restoration efforts.
- Aspen Hollow Preserve, Rimrock Ranch, and Priday Ranch: We continued or started another another round of forest restoration efforts at these Preserves that included pile burning at Aspen Hollow Preserve and juniper thinning at Rimrock Ranch and Priday Ranch.
- Willow Springs Preserve: We worked with our restoration partners to launch the second phase of creek restoration. The freshly built wooden structures at the Preserve continue to help jumpstart natural stream processes that will help improve habitat over time.
- Camp Polk Meadow Preserve and Indian Ford Meadow Preserve: Together with volunteers, we planted 1,368 new native grasses in dry portions of the Preserves to continue our long term native plant habitat restoration efforts.
- Ochoco Preserve: Finally, Ochoco Preserve underwent a major transformation this year! Phase two of the Ochoco Preserve Project included building new channels and floodplains for Ochoco Creek and the Crooked River, dramatically improving habitat for plants and animals.
Huge thanks to all our supporters, volunteers, and partners for making these restoration efforts possible! Together we can care for the lands and waters of Central Oregon!
