The golden eagle nest at Aspen Hollow Preserve, which has been active for 16 consecutive years, has an eaglet! This is particularly exciting news, after the eagle couple did not hatch an eaglet last year.
This year's golden eaglet hatched in late March. The eaglet is quickly morphing from a white fluffball to having more and more dark feathers grow in. You can watch the golden eagle nest on the East Cascades Bird Alliance website. Soon, you will be able to see the eaglet begin to exercise its wings (or "wingercise"). Typically, the eaglet will fledge sometime in early- to mid-June. Until then, it remains entirely dependent on its parents for food.
Aspen Hollow Preserve was conserved by the Land Trust in 2015. As part of this protection, the Preserve is closed during golden eagle nesting season, allowing the large raptors to nest without human disturbance.
