The Land Trust recently installed new interpretive signs at Whychus Canyon Preserve. These new signs are part of a larger project to help increase inclusivity and accessibility for all types of users at Land Trust Preserves.

At Whychus Canyon Preserve, we replaced the trailhead kiosk signs and Santiam Wagon Road signs with new ones that improve the user experience. The signs continue to provide general information about the Preserve, as well as cultural and natural history. Visitors can learn about regional history, Whychus Creek, Native American stewards of the land, and more!

Specific accessibility and inclusivity improvements include:

  • Reviewing and rewriting all content to meet accessible grade level reading standards and using clear, straightforward language that is easy to understand.
  • Including access to other ways to view signage. All signs now have built in QR codes that link to versions in Spanish and for people to listen using an audio reader (for vision impaired). Learn more.
  • Updating design features to improve readability, scannability, and other accessibility features.
  • Including more information on local Native American communities.
  • Updating photography to reflect all people who visit our Preserves.

Whychus Canyon Preserve is the second of several Preserves that will see new signs in 2025. Stay tuned for more updates!
