Help the Land Trust care for bird boxes at our Preserves! We are looking for volunteers to help us check the conditions of bird boxes at our Preserves. Volunteers will need to navigate to the boxes using a mapping app, check the condition of the box, clean out last year’s nesting materials, and then report back to the Land Trust. Your efforts will help keep birds healthy and contribute to nest success. Flexible dates and times for volunteering; boxes will need to be cleaned between October 1-31. This volunteer opportunity is family-friendly!

Bird box helpers are needed at several places with varying degrees of access difficulty:

  • Camp Polk Meadow Preserve (Hindman Springs): easy, less than 1 mile walk on a gravel trail. Boxes are located off-trail through a grassy meadow. 1 volunteer needed.
  • Camp Polk Meadow Preserve (lower meadow): moderate ~1-2 mile hike. Portions will be off-trail through a grassy meadow. Terrain will be uneven and wet at times. Previous lower meadow experience preferred. 1 volunteer needed.
  • Metolius Preserve: moderate ~2-4 mile hike on Preserve trails. Boxes are located off-trail in the forest. 1-2 volunteers needed.
