Join the Deschutes Land Trust and Derek Loeb for a geology hike at the 4,500-acre Priday Ranch. Explore basalt flows and tuff created by volcanic ash while you learn more about the geology of the region. We'll hike up the canyon along Trout Creek to get a glimpse into what makes this property so incredible. Registration is required and opens 1 month prior to the event.

  • Outing Details + Route

    Hike Rating: This is a moderate ~4 mile hike off-trail, through grassy meadows, and along Trout Creek.

    Route: This hike will start near the parking area and will include walking on roads and off-trail. Terrain will be uneven at times.

    Elevation gain/loss: This hike is moderate with little elevation gain/loss.

  • What to Bring

    Snacks/lunch, water, closed toe shoes. Dress for the weather.

  • About the Property

    The Land Trust protected the 4,500 acre Priday Ranch in 2020. Priday Ranch contains ten miles of Trout Creek, Antelope Creek, and Ward Creek, rugged canyons, and native grasslands. The property is located north of Madras, Oregon and is home to numerous wildlife species including steelhead, nesting golden eagles, mule deer, Rocky Mountain elk, and beaver.

    The Land Trust is working to make our Walks + Hikes as accessible as possible. Please let us know at least one week in advance if there is something we can do or provide to support you in participating in this outing to the fullest and we will accommodate as possible.
