Carol Wall has been a Land Trust member since 2000 and volunteer since 2008. A retired UC Davis cultural anthropology and linguistics professor, former dean and vice chancellor, she was hoping to just watch birds and keep more below the radar.
Alas, it became sooo clear that she had so many talents that we just had to get her involved in other ways! She did get to do some birding (and still does!), but Carol also became a dedicated tour leader, leading bird walks, history tours, and other outings from 2008-2023. If you were lucky enough to attend one of her tours, you know that her warm welcome instantly brought you in. Her easy way of sharing natural or cultural history inspired you to learn more. And her commitment and love of the Land Trust and the Preserve always shined brightly.
Carol also has a passion for history and donated many hours to researching and developing the historical records of our Preserves. She helped write the text for our Santiam Wagon Road and Camp Polk Meadow Preserve interpretive materials, helped stare at endless historical photos to go on our signs, and continues to hunt for new Preserve deed records so we know the stories of those that came before us.
Carol is a dedicated trail steward, helping tend the trail at the South Trailhead of the Metolius Preserve for many years. She has been an awesome wreath maker at the Tree Hunt, an extra set of hands at many a work party, a trainer of other hike leaders, and she was one of our 2009 Volunteers of the Year. The list goes on and on!
But, it all comes down to the fact, that Carol is an incredible person on all fronts, a wonderful and dedicated volunteer, and the Land Trust is a better place because of her. This is why we are pleased to recognize Carol Wall for her outstanding lifetime of volunteer service with the Land Trust with our 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award! THANK YOU Carol!
