Spring is a busy time of year at the Land Trust's Whychus Canyon Preserve! Wildflowers, sunny skies, and snow at higher elevations, means many Central Oregonians head to the Preserve to walk, hike, and take in the scenery. While we love having visitors at the Preserve, we also need your help to care for this amazing place.
On busy spring days (often weekends), the parking lot at Whychus Canyon Preserve fills quickly. We ask that you only park in approved parking spots. If you find it the lot full, please do not park on the road or outside of the parking area. This damages habitat for wildlife, can cause fires, and blocks access for emergency vehicles. Here are some other tips to help you plan your visit.
Tips for Visiting Whychus Canyon Preserve in the Spring
- Check our Calendar. We host guided hikes at the Preserve throughout the year. If you plan to visit, check our calendar first to see if a hike is planned that might impact space in the parking lot.
- Have a backup plan. Before you head to the Preserve, have a backup plan B and C in case there are too many visitors. Find other wildflower/spring hike options here.
- Visit at less popular times. Whychus Canyon Preserve is open during daylight hours year-round. Visit during the week, or early or late in the day. Midday on the weekend is the busiest time at the Preserve.
- Park only in approved gravel parking spots. If the parking lot is full, please return at another time.
- Leave no trace. Pack out what you bring in.
Thank you for helping take care of Whychus Canyon Preserve! Together we can ensure the Preserve and its plants and animals thrive into the future!
